Low Winter Sun rises at AMC

US cable network AMC has one of the strongest line-ups of original drama series to grace television anywhere, from Mad Men and The Walking Dead to Breaking Bad and Hell on Wheels.

Now joining that illustrious roster is Low Winter Sun, which has now been ordered to series following production of a pilot that was greenlit in May this year.

Produced by AMC Studios and Endemol Studios,  Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds) will be the showrunner overseeing the initial 10-episode run.

Based on the original British two-part drama of the same name that was produced by Endemol-owned Tiger Aspect in 2006, Low Winter Sun is a story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred.

Another pilot ordered at the same time as Low Winter Sun, an untitled legal thriller from Richard LaGravenese and Tony Goldwyn, remains in contention for a 2013 pick-up.
