BBC goes to War

The BBC has continued its drama commissioning spree by ordering a new adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s literary epic War and Peace.

Written by Andrew Davies (Mr Selfridge, Pride & Prejudice), the 6×60′ series will be produced by BBC Cymru Wales and is being lined up for BBC One’s schedule in 2015.

It will be executive produced by Faith Penhale, head of drama at BBC Wales.

War and Peace has previously been adapted by the BBC into a 20-part series starring Anthony Hopkins, which aired in 1972/73.

This is the latest drama commission from the BBC, which has previously announced an adaptation of JK Rowling’s A Casual Vacancy alongside a host of new drama series, such as fantasy adventure Atlantis.
