With a consolidated audience of more than one million viewers tuning in to season two, was there any doubt the BBC would miss out on the third and final season of Danish political drama Borgen?
Any fears of the corporation losing out on Danish public broadcaster DR’s hit series have been dispelled after it confirmed it had bought rights to season three. It is schedule to air next winter on BBC Four.
The third season begins two-and-a-half years after the climax of season two, when Danish Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen) calls a general election. The story picks up with Nyborg out of office, out of politics and disillusioned with her party, until friend and mentor Bent Sejrø (Lars Knutzon) tries to persuade her to come back.
