As the battle to beat television pirates rages on, Australian pay-TV broadcaster Foxtel is the latest player set to air its US imports much closer to their domestic debuts.
Shows such as Sons of Anarchy, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter and Mad Men will play on Foxtel’s assortment of channels within hours of their US screening in an attempt to prevent fans from turning to illegal downloads to see the next episode of their favourite series before they are legitimately broadcast.
The announcement was made at Foxtel’s announcement of its 2013 schedule.
Homegrown dramas due to debut this year include Wentworth (10×60′), FremantleMedia Australia’s remake of the original Prisoner series, and Devil’s Playground, Matchbox Pictures’ sequel to Fred Schepisi’s 1976 film The Devil’s Playground.
