FX orders more Americans

Just four episodes into its freshman season, US cable channel FX has ordered a second season of its original spy drama The Americans.

Created by Joe Weisberg, the series is set in Cold War America in 1981 and tells the story of two married KGB agents posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC.

Weisberg executive produces with Joel Fields, Graham Yost and Amblin Television’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. It is produced by Fox Television Studios (Burn Notice, White Collar) and FX Productions (Sons of Anarchy, Justified).

The 13-episode second season will air in 2014.

The Americans is the latest original drama to air on FX, following Sons of Anarchy, Justified and miniseries American Horror Story.

Last month it was acquired by UK broadcaster ITV.
