US pilots 2013/14: CBS

This is the second of five round-ups detailing the drama pilots ordered by the big five US networks for consideration for the 2013/14 season.

Each network subsequently announces which pilots have been ordered to series during their individual Upfronts presentation in May.

Next up is CBS, which has ordered 11 drama pilots:



The Advocates

A female lawyer and a male ex-con partner as “victim advocates”, helping to right wrongs and fight for the underdog.

Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) writes and executive produces this pilot from Warner Bros Television.

Anatomy of Violence

A criminal psychologist – an expert in sociopaths – partners with a female detective with whom he shares a troubled past.

From writer/executive producers Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and Alex Cary (Homeland), it is produced by 20th Television and Teakwood Lane.


Based on the Swedish book series by Leif GW Persson about an overweight, offensive, irascible detective as he tries to change his self-destructive behaviour.

This is produced by 20th Television, with executive producers Hart Hanson, Persson and Niclas Salomonsson.

Beverly Hills Cop

Continuing the film franchise, this centres on Axel Foley’s police officer son who targets the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Shawn Ryan, Eddie Murphy, Marney Hochman and Vahan Moosekian executive produce for Sony Pictures Television, Paramount Pictures and MiddKid Productions.


Based on Israeli format that never came to air, a Washington DC surgeon is caught in a political conspiracy after being chosen to operate on the president.

This is produced by Warner Bros Television and Jerry Bruckheimer Television with executive producers Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Omri Givon, Rotem Shamir and Chayim Sharir. KristieAnne Reed and Alon Aranya co-executive produce.


This focuses on US Cyber Command, created around an agent with a special gift – a microchip that allows him to access the entire electromagnetic spectrum.

Michael Seitzman, David Semel and Trip Vinson executive produce for ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios.


A back-door pilot from the crime procedural NCIS: Los Angeles about a team of agents who travel across the US solving crimes.

From writer/executive producer Shane Brennan, CBS Television Studios and Shane Brennan Productions.

The Ordained

The son of a Kennedy-esque family leaves the priesthood and becomes a lawyer to prevent his politician sister from being assassinated.

Executive produced by Frank Marshall, Larry Shuman, AB Fischer and co-executive produced by Lisa Takeuchi Cullen and Robert Zotnowski, it is produced by CBS Television Studios.


A legal series set in Charleston, South Carolina, where a New York litigator and a Southern attorney struggle to hide their attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal.

CBS Television Studios is producing with executive producers Ian Sander, Kim Moses and co-executive producer Dana Stevens.

Second Sight

Based on the UK series, a detective suffers from a virus that causes hallucinations that reflect his subconscious, which he uses to help catch killers.

From CBS Television Studios with executive producers Michael Cuesta (Homeland), Gerald Cuesta, Carol Mendelsohn, Julie Weitz, Nick Reed, Phil Goldfine and Paula Milne.

The Surgeon General

A medical show about America’s surgeon general.

From executive producer Samuel Baum (Lie to Me) and CBS Television Studios.
