Six-part drama Rectify represents US cable network Sundance Channel’s first move into wholly owned scripted series.
And it will now find a worldwide audience after its international sibling Sundance Channel Global acquired the series from UK distributor ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
Sundance Channel Global has picked up rights to Rectify for Asia, Latin America and selected European territories, including France, Iberia, Benelux and Central and Eastern Europe.
Rectify, produced by AMC Networks and Gran Via (Breaking Bad), tells the story of a man who is released from prison after 19 years when DNA evidence casts doubt over his murder and rape conviction.
The drama is due to air on Sundance Channel in the US on April 22.
Sundance Channel has also partnered with the BBC, BBC Worldwide and UKTV in Australia and New Zealand for award-winning director Jane Campion’s forthcoming drama Top of the Lake (7×50′), which is due to air in the US on March 18.
Previous Sundance scripted series include BBC spy drama Restless and Canal+’s Carlos.
