BBC America onboard Taylor biopic

BBC America has come onboard a new TV movie charting the relationship between Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Last month BBC4 in the UK commissioned Burton and Taylor, a 1×90′ film that will follow the star couple’s private and public lives played out against the backdrop of their appearance in a 1983 revival of Noel Coward’s stage play Private Lives.

Burton will be played by Dominic West (The Hour) while Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech) has been cast as Taylor.

The film is written by William Ivory (Made in Dagenham) and produced by BBC Drama Production, with BBC America now coproducing. Jessica Pope is the executive producer, with Lachlan McKinnon producing.

The US cable channel will subsequently screen it as part of its Dramaville strand, which showcases the best of British drama. Other forthcoming acquisitions include miniseries Spies of Warsaw, the third season of crime drama Luther and ITV series Broadchurch.

BBC Worldwide holds international distribution rights to Burton and Taylor.
