Misfits to end after fifth season

It’s the science-fiction drama that imagined what happened when five young offenders were granted supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm.

But UK broadcaster Channel 4 has announced that the forthcoming fifth season of Misfits will be the last.

Created by Howard Overman and produced by Clerkenwell Films, Misfits first aired on Channel 4’s sister network E4 in 2009. During the course of the series, it was also acquired by VoD platform Hulu in the US – one of more than 100 territories to acquire it.

Filming has now begun on season five (8×60′), which will air this autumn. Overman returns to write the show alongside executive producers Murray Ferguson and Petra Fried.

E4 last month commissioned a new drama, Glue, which joins Youngers and My Mad Fat Diary on its original drama slate.
