History on board second season of Vikings

An average of five million viewers have tuned into the first five episodes of historical drama Vikings.

So US cable network History has moved quickly to order a second season of its first scripted series.

Created and written by Michael Hirst, History has ordered a ten-episode second run with four episodes still to air in its debut season.

The show follows the lives and adventures of the eponymous warriors through the eyes of Viking society.

Hirst is an executive producer with Morgan O’Sullivan, John Weber, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, James Flynn and Sheila Hockin. It is produced by World 2000 and Take 5 Productions.

The second season of Vikings will begin production this summer and is due to air in 2014.

MGM Television distributes the series outside of Ireland, the US and Canada, where it will also air on History.
