Broadcasters in the US and Canada have become coproduction partners on the BBC’s forthcoming adaptation of Susanna Clarke’s novel Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
Cable network BBC America and Bell Media-owned Space will partner on the BBC One series (7×60′), which tells the story of two magicians reinventing the dark arts during the Napoleonic War.
Adapted by Peter Harness, it is produced by Nick Hirschkorn and Greg Dummett. Its executive producers are Nick Marston, Tally Garner, Dixie Linder, Justin Thomson-Glover, Patrick Irwin and Matthew Read.
Cuba Pictures is producing the series for the BBC and co-produced by BBC America in association with Feel Film, Bell Media’s Space, Far Moor and Screen Yorkshire. It is distributed by Endemol Worldwide Distribution.
Pre-production is due to begin later this month, with filming set to roll later this summer. The series will premiere in 2014.
