After commissioning Anglo-French coproduction The Tunnel, Sky Atlantic in the UK has looked to the US for a partner on its “most ambitious drama commission to date”.
The BSkyB-owned network has teamed up with premium cable channel Starz for Fortitude (13×60′), a close-knit community where there has never been a crime – until a murder threatens the future of the town and its residents.
The sheriff must investigate the brutal murder of a British research scientist alongside a British detective who has flown in from the UK to help solve the case.
Fortitude is produced by Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect. It is written by Simon Donald, who executive produces with Anne Mensah, Madonna Baptiste, Patrick Spence and Colin Callender.
The commission is part of Sky’s ongoing commitment to increase investment in original British content and by 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its channels.
Other original dramas greenlit by Sky Atlantic include miniseries Hit & Miss, detective thriller Falcón, and the forthcoming Fleming (working title) and The Tunnel.
Fortitude will begin shooting later this year and will be broadcast on Sky Atlantic and Starz in 2014.
