After just one episode, US premium cable network Starz has ordered a second season of its original drama Da Vinci’s Demons.
The show, which debuted on April 12, drew more than 2.14 million across its opening weekend, making it the highest-rated premiere weekend ever for an original Starz series.
Da Vinci’s Demons tells the untold story of the world’s greatest genius, Leonardo da Vinci, during his youth in Renaissance Florence.
It was created by showrunner David S Goyer and is produced by Adjacent Productions, part of BBC Worldwide Productions. Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter executive produce.
Outside of the US and English-speaking Canada, the series is distributed by BBC Worldwide. Fox International Channels (FIC) acquired the first season for its networks in Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Production of the second season will begin in Wales in May this year and is expected to air in 2014.
