US cable channel Syfy has ordered a second season of its television/video game crossover show Defiance.
The series broke new ground when it launched on both platforms simultaneously.
And this partnership will continue into season two when 13 new episodes air in 2014. Production will begin in Toronto in August.
Produced by Universal Cable Productions, Defiance is set in the near future on an exotic Earth following the arrival of seven unique alien races who must co-exist with humans.
The television series is set in the boom-town of Defiance in St Louis, Missouri, while the game takes place in San Francisco.
Showrunner Kevin Murphy will continue as executive producer with Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin. Michael Taylor is the consulting producer.
The first season premiered on APril 15 to 3.8 million viewers.
