24 is back

Plans for a feature film fell through but that doesn’t mean action series 24 is disappearing altogether.

After eight seasons on US broadcast network Fox, it was brought to a close in 2010 as plans for a movie gathered steam.

But with those ambitions now put to one side, Kiefer Sutherland will jump back into the role of Jack Bauer for a new run scheduled to air in summer 2014.

Titled 24: Live Another Day, the series will resurrect its split screen format with 12 episodes representing 24 hours – half the episode order of the previous eight seasons.

The story will again follow Bauer (Sutherland), this time several years after the end of season eight.

24: Live Another Day is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television in association with Teakwood Lane Productions. Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer and Kiefer Sutherland will executive produce.

The series was originally created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran.
