It was originally billed as a three-part miniseries.
But after winning acclaim when it was transmitted in March this year, the BBC has ordered a second series of zombie drama In The Flesh.
Created by writer Dominic Mitchell, it follows zombies as they are rehabilitated and returned to their old lives. In the second season, the living and the dead have reached a fragile peace but new characters threaten to throw those plans into disarray.
In The Flesh is produced by BBC Drama Production North and executive produced by Hilary Martin and Ann Harrison-Baxter.
It will be filmed later this year and transmit in 2014 on BBC Three. The number of episodes has not yet been confirmed.
