WGN America spells out Salem

WGN America, the cable and satellite channel owned by Tribune Broadcasting Company, has ordered its first original scripted series.

Salem, which comes from the producers behind Homeland, is set in 17th Century Massachusetts and explores the truth behind the town’s infamous witch trials.

WGN has ordered 13 episodes, the first of which will begin production this fall for a 2014 premiere.

The series was created and written by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, who will executive produce with Prospect Park’s Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinetz. It will be produced by Fox 21, part of 20th Century Fox Television.
