The new series will air in 2014 and sees executive producer Brian Buckner returning as showrunner.

The long-running show takes place in a world where vampires and humans co-exist, thanks to the invention of a mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source.

True Blood was created by Alan Ball, based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

Season six launched on HBO on June 26. The executive producers are Ball, Buckner, Gregg Fienberg and Alexander Woo, and the co-executive producer is Angela Robinson. The coproducers are Kate Barnow and Christina Jokanovich.
