ABC Family waltzes away from Bunheads

ABC Family has cancelled its ballet-inspired drama Bunheads.

The show, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Lamar Damon, first aired in June 2012 but low ratings saw the cable network decline to renew it for a second season.

It told the story of a former ballerina who became a showgirl, only to marry and move to a small town where she became a dance teacher alongside her mother-in-law.

The cancellation came days after ABC Family also axed The Lying Game, a teen drama about a foster child that learns she has an identical twin, which ran for two seasons.
