ITV leads search for Lucan

The flamboyant artistocrat Lord Lucan and his mysterious disappearance is the subject of a new two-part drama for ITV.

Lucan, written by Jeff Pope, will tell the story of his exploits as a member of the infamous Clermont set, his marriage collapse to Veronica, the Countess of Lucan, and the night his children’s nanny was bludgeoned to death in the basement of the family home. He subsequently disappeared and his whereabouts remain a mystery.

Based on the book The Gamblers by John Pearson, it will star Rory Kinnear, Christopher Eccleston and Michael Gambon.

Lucan is produced by ITV Studios and GroupM Entertainment, with producer Chris Clough and executive producers Pope, Francis Hopkinson, Quentin Curtis, Richard Foster and Tony Moulsdale. The director is Adrian Shergold.

Filming of Lucan will begin in August 2013 in and around London.
