The BBC has unveiled a new drama to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.
Set in a tented field hospital on the coast of France, The Ark follows a team of doctors, nurses and women volunteers who work together to heal the bodies and souls of men wounded in the trenches.
Written by Sarah Phelps, the 6×60′ series is a BBC Drama Production for BBC One and will be distributed by Endemol Worldwide Distribution.
Anne Pivcevic is the BBC executive producer, Phelps is an executive producer and lead writer, and Annie Tricklebank is producer. David Evans, Richard Clark and Thaddeus O’Sullivan are the directors.
The cast will include Oona Chaplin, Hermione Norris, Suranne Jones, Kevin Doyle, Kerry Fox and Marianne Oldham.
Filming will begin this month and The Ark is due to air in 2014.
