Syfy tunes up for space opera The Expanse

Syfy has made a straight-to-series order for what it describes as the cable channel’s “boldest new series commitment to date”.

The Expanse, set 200 years in the future, follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.

The ten-part series is produced by Alcon Television Group, with writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby executive producing alongside Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson and Sharon Hall. Ben Roberts is the c0-producer and Ben Cook the producer.

Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, who developed the original pitch with Fergus and Ostby are also executive producers.

The Expanse is based on the book series written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (aka James SA Corey). Abraham and Franck are also producers.

Alcon retains distribution rights.
