Syfy drama ascends to CBC

Syfy drama Ascension is heading north of the border.

Canada’s CBC has picked up the six-part drama, which is produced by Lionsgate and Sea to Sky Studios in association with Lift Off Productions and Blumhouse Productions.

In 1963, the US launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.

Brian Van Holt, Tricia Helfer, Jacqueline Byers, Andrea Roth, Wendy Crewson, Ryan Robbins and John Ralston star.

Writer and showrunner Philip Levens executive produces with Jason Blum, Ivan Fecan, Tim Gamble and Brett Burlock.

The series is due to premiere on CBC in November this year.

The series is co-financed and distributed by Universal Cable Productions and Lionsgate Television.
