First there was Bates Motel, US cable channel A&E’s prequel to the classic horror film Psycho.
Now there is Damien, a spin-off from The Omen that is heading to A&E’s A+E Networks stablemate Lifetime.
The network has placed a six-episode straight-to-series order for the show, which is produced by Fox Television Studios.
The story follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the original 1976 film who has grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny — that he is the Antichrist, the most feared man throughout the ages.
Scheduled to launch in early 2015, Damien will be written by Glenn Mazzara, who executive produces through his 44 Strong Productions. Ross Fineman, who developed the project alongside Mazzara, executive produces through his company, Fineman Entertainment. Pancho Mansfield also executive produces.
