UCP bags DR’s Legacy remake rights

Universal Cable Production has won the race to acquire remake rights to the latest hit from Danish public broadcaster DR.

Following the success of Forbrydelsen (aka The Killing) and Borgen, DR’s latest drama Arvingerne (aka The Legacy) is also winning over viewers, with a second season due to launch in January 2015.

Season one is currently on air on Sky Arts in the UK.

UCP, along with Hypnotic, has now partnered with DR to develop a US remake of the series, with a period of one year to find a broadcaster to take on the series.

The production company won the rights after all those bidding for them were asked by DR to pitch how they would make a series.

This is the first time Arvingerne will be remade overseas, while the Forbrydelsen has previously been remade in the US, by AMC and Netflix. Indian and Russian versions are also in production.
