First look: William Hurt in Humans

Here’s William Hurt appearing in the forthcoming drama Humans.

He plays Dr George Millican, a widower who has formed a close relationship with his out-of-date synth Odi, who he treats more like a son than a piece of machinery.

The series is set in a parallel present, where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart.

The story follows one strained suburban family as it purchases a refurbished synth, only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences.

Hurt leads a cast that also includes Katherine Parkinson, Tom Goodman-Hill, Colin Morgan, Rebecca Front, Neil Maskell, and Gemma Chan.

The 8×60’ series is made by Kudos Film and Television, in association with Matador Films, which produced the series upon which it is based, Äkta människor (aka Real Humans), for SVT in Sweden.

Humans will air on Channel 4 in the UK and US cable channel AMC in 2015.
