David Threlfall and John Simm star in a new two-part ITV drama that explores how DNA technology revolutionised the way police investigate crime.
Code of a Killer is based on the true story of Alec Jeffrey’s discovery of DNA fingerprinting and its first use by Detective Chief Superintendent David Baker to catch a double murderer.
Threlfall plays Baker, who between 1983 and 1987 led the investigation into the brutal murders of two Leicestershire schoolgirls.
Simm takes on the role of Jeffreys, a scientist who in 1984 invented a technique to read individual fingerprints.
The cast also includes Lorcan Cranitch, Robert Glenister, Siobhan Redmond, Anna Madeley, Dorothy Atkinson, Andrew Tiernan, Jaz Deol, Hannah Walters, Lydia Rose Bewley, and Ged Simons.
Produced by World Productions, Code of a Killer is written by Michael Crompton.
It is produced by Priscilla Parish, and executive produced by Simon Heath.
