Timothy Spall and Victoria Wood will head the cast of Sky One’s four-part adaptation of Fungus the Bogeyman.
Written by Tom MacRae, based on Raymond Briggs’ classic story, Spall plays Fungus, a family man who has lived underground for hundreds of years, never questioning his own existence… until now.
Fungus and his son Mould will embark on a journey through the maze of life on the surface, while also discovering the highs and lows of their father and son relationship.
Wood stars as Eve, an earthy, eccentric “Dry Cleaner” living in the human inhabited town of Daventry.
The cast also includes Keeley Hawes, Marc Warren, Joanna Scanlan, Paul Kaye, and Andy Serkis as the narrator.
Production starts this week on the miniseries, which will air this Christmas.
It is produced by Imaginarium Studios, in partnership with Double Negative’s TV department, DNeg TV.
The executive producers are Chloe Sizer, Jonathan Cavendish, and Cameron Roach. The producer is John Chapman.
International distribution will be handled by Sky Vision.
