Amazon UK secures Extant season two

Amazon Prime Instant Video has picked up the second season of Halle Berry drama Extant for its subscribers in the US.

The new run, which begins on the VoD platform on July 2, see astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) discovers she has unwittingly put the human race on a path to destruction, and that she and mysterious stranger JD Richter (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) may be Earth’s only hope for survival.A new episode will be released each week after its US airing, with season one already available.

The series also stars Pierce Gagnon and Grace Gummer.

Extant is coproduced by CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television. Steven Spielberg, Liz Kruger, Craig Shapiro, Mickey Fisher, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Berry, and Brooklyn Weaver are executive producers.

Morgan joins Extant

Magic City star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on to the cast of CBS’s summer series Extant.

The mystery drama stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who discovers she has unwittingly put the human race on a path to destruction, and that she and a mysterious stranger may be the only hope for survival.

Morgan will play a womanising bounty hunter who thought he had seen everything until Molly Woods (Berry) enters his life.

ProSiebenSat.1 adds CBS titles

German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has acquired two new series as part of its licensing deal with CBS Studios International.

It will air NCIS: New Orleans on its stations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland after acquiring exclusive free TV and some pay TV rights.

ProSiebenSat.1 will also air science-fiction thriller Extant.

Other CBS shows in its catalogue include NCIS, Elementary, and Under the Dome.

CBS returns to the Dome

CBS has renewed two summer series for 2015.

Under the Dome will have a third outing while Halle Berry-starrer Extant will have a second season.

Based on Stephen King’s eponymous novel, Under the Dome tells the story of a small town that is suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome.

It is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Amblin Television. Steven Spielberg, King, Neal Baer, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Stacey Snider executive produce.

Extant is a mystery thriller about a female astronaut (Berry) trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space.

The series is coproduced by CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television. Spielberg, Greg Walker, Mickey Fisher, Brooklyn Weaver, Falvey, Frank and Berry executive produce. Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas is a co-executive producer.

Due to debut on CBS on July 9, it will launch to Prime subscribers on July 10, with every subsequent episode becoming available the day after their US broadcast.

Produced by Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios, the cast also includes Goran Visnjic, Camryn Manheim, Michael O’Neill, Hiroyuki Sanada, Pierce Gagnon and Grace Gummer.

Steven Spielberg, Greg Walker, writer Mickey Fisher, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank are the executive producers. Berry is a co-executive producer.

CBS sets summer schedule

Extant and Reckless will make their debuts on CBS this summer.

Legal drama Reckless will launch on June 29, the same day as the premiere of season three of crime procedural Unforgettable.

June 30 will mark the premiere of season two of Under the Dome, while space drama Extant will begin on July 9.

Reckless is set in Charleston, South Carolina, where a Yankee litigator and southern attorney must hide their attraction as a police sex scandal threatens to tear the city apart. The cast includes Anna Wood, Cam Gigandet, Shawn Hatosy, Adam Rodriguez, Georgina Haig, Kim Wayans, Gregory Harrison and Michael Gladis; and the executive producers are Dana Stevens, Kim Moses, Ian Sanders, Corey Miller and Catherine Hardwicke for CBS Television Studios.

Unforgettable stars Poppy Montgomery as a police detective with a rare condition that allows her to remember and recall every moment in her life. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with CBS Television Studios, and executive produced by Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Ed Redlich, John Bellucci and Ed Decter.

Amazon cements CBS pact

The Tudors and Star Trek are heading to Amazon’s VoD platform after the internet giant strengthened its ties with US broadcast network CBS.

Amazon has extended its licensing agreement with CBS Television Distribution and Showtime to bring new series to its Amazon Prime Instant Video service.

As well as The Tudors and the complete Star Trek franchise, the deal also includes Medium, Criminal Minds: Suspicious Behavior and Vegas.

Amazon has previously licensed series including Under the Dome and Extant.
