The BBC has bolstered the cast for the return of its island crime drama Shetland.
Brian Cox and Julie Graham will star in the murder mystery alongside Douglas Henshall in the six-part second season of the BBC One drama, which is currently filming in Scotland.
Based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, the new run will tell the three remaining stories – Raven Black, Blue Lightning and Dead Water – in three two-part (2×60′) episodes.
Raven Black is written by Gaby Chiappe, Blue Lightning by Richard Davidson and Dead Water by David Kane.
Shetland is executive produced by Christopher Aird for the BBC and Elaine Collins for ITV Studios. It is produced by Peter Gallagher.
The BBC is returning to Shetland for an extended run after commissioning a second season of the Scottish murder-mystery drama.
Shetland, produced by ITV Studios, aired on BBC One last month with one story running across two parts but will now be expanded into a six-part season.
Based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, the second season will focus on the three remaining stories in the author’s Shetland series – Raven Black, Dead Water and Blue Lightning – and will be produced as three two-part stories.
Raven Black will be written by Gaby Chiappe, Dead Water by David Kane and Blue Lightning by Richard Davidson.
Filming will take place in the coming months on Shetland and in other Scottish locations.
