SIC grabs Globo TV bundle

Portugal’s SIC has picked up a number of series from Brazilian distributor Globo TV International.

Merciless, Doomed, and The Hunter have all been acquired, with the latter due to lauch on March 21 as part of a new Saturday primetime slot dedicated to fiction.

Dupla Identidade (Merciless, 10×60′) tells the story of serial killer Edu (Bruno Gagliasso), a handsome, intelligent man who kills for the pleasure of it. Written by Glória Perez, it also stars Débora Falabella.

Amores Roubados (Doomed, 8×60′) is about Leandro, a sommelier, who is bold with married women and cautious with their husbands, until he is surprised by young and fearless Antônia. The cast includes Cauã Raymond, and Isis Valverde, and the writer is George Moura.

O Caçador (The Hunter, 13×60′) – written by Fernando Bonassi, Marçal Aquino and José Alvarenga – is about André (Cauã Raymond), a cop who is arrested after his own father wrongly accused him of being involved in a kidnapping. Once released from jail, he is driven by one single goal: finding clues to prove his innocence.

SIC has also picked up O Canto da Sereia (Siren’s Song, 4×45′), written by George Moura and Patrícia Andrade. It is the story of Sereia (Isis Valverde), considered the queen of pop music, who lives in a world where fame and wealth are interwoven with feelings of envy and hatred. Her murder in the middle of Carnival shocks the country and the hunt for the criminal reveals a new suspect every day.

Israel’s Viva follows Trail of Lies

Brazilian drama Amor à Vida (aka Trail of Lies) has found a home in Israel.

Pay TV network Viva, which airs only Latin American telenovelas, has acquired the series from Globo TV International.

With a story full of intrigue, jealousy, romance, and revenge, Trail of Lies follows a woman whose newborn baby is kidnapped by her own brother, who plans to become the sole heir to his family’s fortune.

It is written by Walcyr Carrasco and stars Paolla Oliveira, Mateus Solano, Malvino Salvador, Antônio Fagundes, Susana Vieira, José Wilker, and Elizabeth Savalla.

The Globo TV telenovela (160×60′) has previously aired on SIC in Portugal, and been licensed to ITVN in Poland, Public TV in Armenia, MundoFox in the US, Soico in Mozabique, RCN in Colombia, Telefe in Argentina, and Azteca in Mexico.

Sparkling Girls tour Latin America

Brazilian telenovela Sparkling Girls (aka Cheias de Charme, 120×45′) is travelling across Latin America after being picked up by four new networks.

The Globo TV show, about three housekeepers who become a trio of successful singers, has been picked up by Teledoce in Uruguay, Canal 13 in Chile, Ecuavisa in Ecuador and Canal 4 in El Salvador.

Teledoce has previously bought Globo TV shows including Destiny River, Brazil Avenue and The Life We Lead, while Canal 13 has also acquired The Life We Lead.

Ecuavisa is currently screening Brazil Avenue and Canal 4’s slate includes Destiny River and The Enchanted Tale.

Sparkling Girls has previously been sold by  to NEXtv in Panama, STV in Mozambique and SIC in Portugal.

Brazilian telenovela Dinosaurs & Robots (aka Morde e Assopra, 125×45′) will find new viewers across Latin America and Europe after it was sold by Globo TV International.

Teledoce in Uruguay, ATV in Peru, Cerro Corá in Paraguay, TeleAntillas in the Dominican Republic, Canal 2 in Nicaragua and SIC in Portugal have all bought the series, which was partly recorded in Japan where the story begins.
The story follows a paleontologist hoping to find fossils on a farmer’s plantation, causing huge conflict, and a scientist who hopes to build a robot in the image of his wife who disappeared after an accident.

The cast of Dinosaurs & Robots, written by Walcyr Carrasco, includes Caio Blat, Cissa Gimarães, Bárbara Paz, Nívea Stelmann, Vanessa Giacomo, Ary Fontoura and Paulo José.

Globo sends Sparkling Girls to Panama

It is the story of three housekeepers who become a successful singing group after their music video becomes a hit on the internet.

And now Brazilian telenovela Sparking Girls (aka Cheias de Charme, 120×45′) is heading to Panama and Mozambique following deals by Globo TV International. It is written by Filipe Miguez and Izabel de Oliveira.

The distributor’s new deals for Sparking Girls, which is currently on air on SIC in Portugal, mean it will air on NEXtv in Panama and STV in Mozambique.

Another Globo TV telenovela, Gabriela (55×45′), has been sold to ATV in Peru, Cerro Corá in Paraguay, Canal 2 in Nicaragua and TeleAntillas in the Dominican Republic

The series, based on the book Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon by Jorge Amado, tells the story of a young immigrant who captivates everyone with her sensuality and spontaneity. It is written by Walcyr Carraso

The original version of Gabriela first aired in the 1970s and the format has now been licensed by Warner Bros International Television Production.

Globo TV International has sales rights in Latin America, Africa and Europe, while Warner Bros International Television Distribution is handling sales in Asia, North America, Australia and the UK.

Venevision chooses The Life We Lead

Two telenovelas from Brazil’s Globo TV are heading to Venezuela.

Cable channel Venevision Plus has acquired The Life We Lead (aka A Vida da Gent, 70×45′), which tells the story of a promising tennis player who spends five years in a coma after an accident and awakes to a life she no longer recognises. It is written by Lícia Manzo.

The show was previously sold to Canal 13 in Chile, Ecuavisa in Ecuador and Teledoce in Uruguay.

Venevision Plus has also bought Brazil Avenue (aka Brasil Avenida, 160×45′), about a girl to fights to regain the life that her horrible stepmother stole from her when she was a child. It is written by João Emanuel Carneiro.

The telenovela has previously been sold to more than ten territories in Latin America, as well as SIC in Portugal and networks in South Korea, Hungary and Croatia.

Teletica visits Brazil Avenue

Brazilian telenovela Brazil Avenue (aka Avenida Brasil, 160×45′) has found a home in Costa Rica following a deal with Globo TV International.

Teletica has picked up the series, about a girl who fights to regain the life stolen by her stepmother when she was a child.

Brazil Avenue, which aired in Brazil on Globo TV in 2012, is also currently on air in Portugal, where it is aired by SIC.

Brazilian broadcaster Globo TV has sold one of its biggest scripted hits of 2012 into Uruguay.

Teledoce has picked up Globo telenovela Brazil Avenue (aka Avenida Brasil, 160×45′), which tells the story of a young girl who fights to reclaim the life that her terrible stepmother stole from her.

The Uruguayan network is close partners with Globo TV and currently airs more than 500 hours of its programming every year.

Other acquisitions include Looks and Essence and The Enchanted Tale.

Other recent deals completed by Globo TV International, the broadcaster’s distribution arm, include the sale of telenovela Sparkling Girls to Portugal’s SIC.
